Lacanau has been a French surfing capital for several years now.
The Lacanau Pro event was set up in 1979. It is the oldest European stage on the professional surfing circuit. Each year, surfers from all over the world come here to discover, share and take on the mythical waves of Lacanau.
The Lacanau Pro was a big challenge taken up by Lacanau's surfers, envious of the competitions taking place at that time elsewhere in the world. It soon proved a big success. From Kelly Slater to Jordy Smith via Tom Curren, our competition, also known as the "French Pro" has attracted all the great names.
One of the two French qualifying stages for the Championship Tour and the World Surf League world title, the Caraïbos Lacanau Pro is a festive event lasting for one week in August.
Beginners' lessons in skimboard, a surfing simulator, freestyle skating & kick-scooter shows, group lessons in yoga & fitness… A whole host of activities all through the day plus live music in the evening.
